Symptoms and courseHemangiomas arise from the dilatation or proliferation of arterial, venous or lymphatic vessels. They usually occur from birth. A distinction can be made between haemangiomas or lymphangiomas. In terms of appearance and shape, they can be flat or cavernous.
Symptoms and course hemangiomas
Flat hem angiomas lie horizontally on the skin, often on the face. Cavernous hemangiomas, on the other hand, are nodular in shape, are bluish-red in colour, and are most commonly located on the face and scalp.A lymphangioma occurs in the form of a follicle from which, when punctured, a clear fluid exudes.
Symptoms and course: They usually do not give symptoms in the form of pain. Depending on the location, they may, for example, cause enlargement of the tongue (in the case of cavernous hemangiomas).
Treatment: Flat and lymphangiomas are treated with laser or by freezing with liquid nitrogen. Cavernous hemangiomas may resolve spontaneously, and it is advisable to apply pressure to speed up the process.
