Is a denture reimbursed by the National Health Fund?

In the event of partial or total tooth loss, having a denture significantly improves a patient's quality of life. However, its performance is associated with costs which not everyone can afford. It is worth knowing that it is possible for the National Health Fund to reimburse dentures.

Any insured patient who meets the conditions listed below may apply for reimbursement of dentures:

  • lack of 5-8 teeth in one dental arch (third molar teeth, the so-called "eights" are not counted),
  • reimbursement covers one denture no more often than every 5 years,
  • dentures must be applied for at a dentist who has a contract with the NFZ to provide this service.

Both full dentures (placed in the mouth after all teeth have been extracted) and partial dentures (removable, fitted to the remaining teeth) may be reimbursed.

The number of contracts is limited, depending on the amount allocated for this purpose in the National Health Fund. Only acrylic dentures, the least technologically advanced, are made under insurance, as the amount offered by the Fund does not allow the purchase of higher-quality materials.
