Doctor before surgery

Occupational eczema is an inflammatory skin lesion that appears when exposed to factors that the patient comes into contact with at work. The most common triggers include metals such as chromium, nickel or cobalt. In addition to these, allergens also include rubber components and epoxies, which are considered to be among the strongest sensitisers and are used, for example, in the paint industry.

Symptoms and course occupational eczema

Symptoms and course
Lesions most often appear on the hands and forearms. Sometimes, when the patient comes into contact with volatile substances, skin lesions may be located on the face, for example. Usually, cessation of exposure to the causative agents causes the lesions to disappear - this is one of the criteria for diagnosis.
Treatment and prevention
Prevention is based primarily on good workplace hygiene, washing hands after work and the use of protective equipment. In addition, it is important to take care of the workplace - ventilation of production halls, introduction of modern technological methods limiting contact with harmful substances.
Treatment is, above all, the elimination of the harmful agent. In more severe cases with exudative lesions, topical preparations containing corticosteroids and anti-infective agents are used.
