Adenomyosis of the uterus (endometriosis) - is an adenomyosis of the uterus. The disease entity is characterised by the phenomenon of overgrowth of mucous cells in the muscle layer of the uterus. The condition is also known as wandering mucosa - in many women it causes infertility. Treatment is mainly based on hormonal contraception. In extreme cases, surgery to remove the uterus (hysterectomy) is performed.
