Behavioural disruption may be a genetically determined and familially transmitted predisposition to experiencing stress in later life. The paper presented here is a discussion of an article from a recent issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry on the predisposition to conduct disorder in children whose parents have bipolar disorder. The results of the study suggest a familial association between bipolar disorder in parents and disordered behaviour in their children.
