This article presents the epidemiology of cervical cancer, including risk factors for the development of the disease, and the FIGO classification of cervical cancer staging. The importance of universal cytological examination for the early detection of cervical cancer and the types of therapy used are discussed. The classification of lesions occurring on the cervix is also presented.
