High-risk pregnancies include:

  • multiple pregnancies;
  • complication of hypertension;
  • kidney disease;
  • heart disease;
  • diabetes mellitus;
  • intrahepatic cholestasis;
  • fetal hypotrophy;
  • serological conflict;
  • placental pathology;
  • foetal abnormalities.

At the first examination of every pregnant woman, the doctor must first take a history, determine the possible risk of a pregnancy at risk, and apply preventive therapy.

Preterm birth refers to births between 22 and 37 weeks of gestation. Giving birth before the due date increases mortality, which accounts for 70-90% of all early deaths. In Poland, there are approximately 4.5- 12% of preterm births related to the socioeconomic conditions of the population.

Symptoms that indicate preterm birth include lower abdominal pain, bleeding, uterine muscle contractions, outflow of amniotic fluid. Treatment of a high-risk pregnancy at risk of preterm birth includes: lying down, inhibition of uterine muscle contraction, stimulation of fetal lung maturation, antibiotic therapy, surgical treatment - placement of a circular suture on the cervix.
