An ectopic pregnancy is located abnormally outside the uterine cavity, with no chance of normal embryo development. It is most commonly located in the fallopian tube , in the bulbous part. Risk factors include a history of pelvic inflammatory disease or treatment of infertility with assisted reproduction techniques.
