A relatively common complaint that patients present to their GP or neurologist is that they experience an unpleasant sensation described as facial tingling. This abnormal, spontaneous sensation can be (and often is) accompanied by other unpleasant sensations such as burning, stinging or pricking. Sensory disturbances of this nature are collectively referred to as paresthesias. They can be located in any part of the body, and the location depends on the part of the nervous system that supplies the body part in question, which is affected by the disease process.
