Cellulite, commonly known as "orange peel", is a skin condition also known as female lipodystrophy, oedematous-fibrotic degeneration of subcutaneous tissue or nodular-hardening fatty degeneration. It forms under the skin in areas of the body where subcutaneous adipose tissue is deposited (e.g. thighs, buttocks, abdomen). Visually, the skin 'infested' with cellulite resembles orange peel (hence its term) or a quilted mattress.
