Psychosis (psychotic disorder/psychotic state) is a syndrome, a collection of symptoms that can be related to many different mental disorders, but in the diagnostic classifications ICD - 10 or DS - IV it is not a separate disease entity. In its broadest sense, it refers to delusions and/or hallucinations. It involves severe disorganisation of behaviour, thinking, perception of reality and requires psychiatric intervention.
