Genetic diseases have accompanied mankind for centuries and the phenomenon of inheritance itself, although unexplained and not fully understood, has nevertheless been noted. Today, some 4 000 diseases with a genetic basis are known, affecting approximately 2% of the population. Each of these affects a person's life and functioning, often shortening life. Many of these are also reflected in the oral cavity, manifesting themselves in various abnormalities.
