Patients initially develop a tingling or piercing pain in the affected part of the body. Vesicles are visible on the skin, which build up over 3-5 days. Movement disorders may appear (in sporadic cases). Very dangerous is the involvement of the ocular part of the trigeminal nerve - hemiplegic conjunctivitis and keratitis can then occur. If the above-mentioned symptoms occur, we speak of hemiplegia - a disease from which pain sensations may persist for a very long time and are then called neuropathic pains.
