Depression in a teenage girl

The analytic approach to depression explains the disorder by the experience of unconscious loss and the frustrating needs of the child's early life experiences. The attitude of the analyst treating the depressed person is active, expressing understanding and support for the patient's suffering. Analytic techniques are designed to bring about the expression of repressed anger, to work through the unconscious loss and the grief associated with it, and to rebuild a sense of dignity and self-worth.
