The process of red papule formation is complex, varied and not fully understood.

Important! Ruby points are much more common in women.

The first lesions to appear on the body are generally small (the size of a pin head), and do not protrude above the surface of the skin. However, as time passes, they can spread superficially, taking the form of papules.

Important! Angiomas of old age do not grow, nor do they spread.

What are ruby points?

Ruby points (angiomas) are the result of the ageing process of the vessel walls. Over time, the elastic fibres that build them up disappear, which results in the expansion of the vessel and the formation of thickening.

Important! This type of skin lesion is a common problem affecting a great many people.

Although the name - hemangioma senilis - indicates that it is an age-related problem, this is not the case. Skin lesions can appear at a very young age. Usually, however, the papules appear between the ages of 30 and 40 (with an upward trend in subsequent years).

Etiology of lesions

There are many causes of the formation of ruby points. According to specialists, the appearance of this type of lesion is the result of:

drinking excessive amounts of coffee,
stress,
a diet rich in spices,
genetic factors,
hormonal factors,
excessive exposure to the sun,
exhaustion.

Important! Ruby points can also develop as a result of exposure to certain types of chemicals (iperite, 2-butoxyethanol, bromides, cyclosporine).

The sudden appearance of multiple senile angiomas on the skin, may suggest conditions such as:

hormonal problems,
disorders of the digestive system,
cardiovascular disorders,
hypertension,
liver diseases.

Important! The appearance of lesions is further influenced by the use of corticosteroid drugs.

Diagnosis and treatment

Theskin les ions are so characteristic that they are easy to diagnose. The formation of ruby points on the skin is not necessarily associated with any systemic disease. Usually, lesions of this type are not dangerous and belong to the benign (unchanging in nature) category.

If follow-up examinations are normal and there are no distressing symptoms - there is no reason to diagnose hemangiomas internistically.

Ruby points are mainly a cosmetic defect. Lesions form on:

back,
abdomen,
face,
neck,
head,
limbs.

If the papules are small and almost invisible, there is no need to remove them. However, if the lesion, because of its location, is very visible or located in a place where it is exposed to irritation (resulting in damage and bleeding, which is associated with inflammation and pain), it is worth removing it in a dermatological office.

There are several methods of removing ruby points:

Electrocoagulation - is a procedure that coagulates (shears off the protein of the skin lesions) the vessels using high-frequency current. The procedure is not very painful (the sensation depends on the pain threshold of the individual patient). Usually a slight prickling sensation is felt.

An apparatus is used, which has a metal electrode. Removal time per lesion lasts from several seconds to one minute.

Important! A dermatological consultation is necessary before the treatment. The doctor will determine whether the lesion can be removed using this type of method.

Immediately after the treatment you may experience:

slight swelling,
redness,
hardening of the skin,
slight bruising.

The above symptoms disappear after a few hours. A scab may appear at the site of the removed lesion, which disappears within 5 to 21 days.

Contraindications to the procedure include the following.

pregnancy,
poor general condition,
coagulation disorders.

Before undergoing the procedure, you should refrain from, among other things.

sunbathing,
microdermabrasion,
chemical peelings (with acids).

Cryotherapy - the procedure involves freezing dilated blood vessels using nitrous oxide. The method is not only one of the effective and safe ones, but also gives good cosmetic results. The procedure involves destroying diseased tissues through a process of freezing them at a temperature of approximately - 196 degrees C.

Important! Freezing can be a one-time procedure, as well as a multi-stage procedure.

The method is minimally invasive and well tolerated by patients of all ages. The procedure is almost painless. Side effects are divided into:

direct (including swelling, blister formation, erythema, bruising),
late (including local infections, discolouration, atrophic scarring).

Important! Side effects are rare. The procedure as well as the healing process usually proceeds without problems.

Contraindications to the treatment are:

pregnancy,
poor general condition.

Laser therapy - the procedure consists in closing blood vessels with a laser. The method is almost painless (you may feel a slight pinching or burning sensation). In the case of sensitive people, a special anaesthetic cream is applied before the treatment.

One way of getting rid of unwanted skin lesions is to use a so-called green laser (LASeMAR 500). This effectively removes all vascular lesions.
