AD is a genetically based disease that is conditioned by a number of factors and involves many pathological processes. The interaction that occurs between groups of genes and between genes and environmental factors, under the influence of susceptibility, causes atopy. The incidence is increasing - especially in industrialised countries and affects people of different age ranges, including infants.
