Spastic paraplegias are both conditions and a group of conditions that manifest themselves as a progressive paresis of the lower limbs, usually resulting in immobilisation of the patient. The causes of this condition can be attributed to both genetic factors (although these are far less common) and external factors. In both cases, neurological symptoms are predominant.
