Spontaneous miscarriage is acomplex biological process involving many factors, both external and internal. Sometimes these factors lie with the mother, sometimes they are attributable to the foetal egg and independent of either the mother or external factors. The problem extends over a very large population, hence it is referred to as a population and global problem.
