Summertime is a period of greater mobility, when we move from place to place, we get to know new areas, things, foods.... Holidays are also a time when we complain more often of skin complaints of unknown origin.
Contact with a hotel towel, animal hair in a farmhouse or a new dish in a hotel restaurant - all of these can cause skin changes - so-called urticaria. This is when pinkish-porcelain "blisters" develop on the skin due to swelling of the skin. Their size varies from a few millimetres to several centimetres.
the urticarial "blisters" can be concentrated in one or several places or cover the whole body. They usually develop quickly, in a few minutes, and they itch and burn, but disappear within 24 hours without leaving a trace. We then speak of acute urticaria, which, according to doctors, half of the population undergoes at least once in their lifetime.
However, if the condition persists over time and even lasts for six weeks or years, it is chronic urticaria. Urticaria is one of the most common and troublesome complaints for both patients and doctors, as it is difficult to diagnose. In about 80% of cases of urticaria, it is not possible to determine the causative agent and the mechanism of development of the skin condition. This type of troublesome skin lesion is referred to as idiopathic urticaria.

Intrinsic factors are thought to be responsible: psychogenic and autoimmune, as well as extrinsic factors: drugs, animal dander and epidermis or contact with fabrics. The cause of hand lesions is usually foodstuffs or latex gloves. In any case, urticaria can effectively spoil our holidays, as it is disfiguring and troublesome, especially when we are in another country and have difficulty communicating with a doctor.
