With the help of botulinum toxin we smooth out mimic wrinkles, mainly in the upper part of the face: crow's feet, so-called lion's furrows, i.e. often very deep wrinkles between the eyebrows that give the face a menacing appearance, as well as horizontal wrinkles on the forehead.

  1. The treatment is completely safe

Botulinum toxin (BOTOX ®) inhibits the conduction of the nerve impulse to the muscle cell, thus preventing the contraction of the facial muscles and wrinkling of the skin.

This prevents the formation of new mimic wrinkles and the deepening of existing wrinkles. The effect of the preparation only affects the muscle into which it is injected, while the other muscles function as before.

The treatment is completely safe

As the nerve fibre has the ability to form new connections, the wrinkle-smoothing effect diminishes and disappears after about six months. On the other hand, it is very important that there is no rapid deterioration of the skin at this time, and it is even better than before the treatment, because thanks to the inhibition of muscle contraction in the wrinkle area, the skin does not wrinkle, which prevents deepening of the furrows. If we want to continue to prevent the deepening of wrinkles, the treatment should be repeated.

The correct injection of botulinum toxin does not cause a change in facial expression or an artificial appearance, provided that the injection sites and the dose size are individually selected in each patient. The effect of botulinum toxin appears within a few days after injection. The full effect is observed after about 7 to 14 days and lasts from 6 to 9 months, depending on the severity of the facial expression.

As a rule, after 2-3 treatments, the time between injections is prolonged because the wrinkles do not deepen. The treatment is very well tolerated by patients, both men and women. Men who want to look younger are increasingly opting for the procedure. The main advantages of the treatment are the minimal time required, virtually no traces of the treatment and a natural wrinkle-smoothing effect that is unrecognisable to those around you.

The pain sensations associated with the administration of Botox are individual, practically the procedure can be considered minimally painful.

Botulinum toxin is particularly effective for removing wrinkles in the upper part of the face, i.e. horizontal forehead lines, wrinkles between the eyebrows and "crow's feet". As an added benefit, we can also lift the eyebrows at the same time when smoothing wrinkles between the eyebrows and around the eyes. We can also lift the corners of the mouth, correct an excessive, so-called gummy smile, and lift the tip of the nose minimally. In the case of very deep wrinkles, a better effect can be achieved by additionally filling in the furrows with hyaluronic acid.
Botulinum toxin can also be used as a preventive measure against wrinkles, in which case the treatment should be performed as soon as the first mimic wrinkles appear.

Another indication is the use of botulinum toxin in the treatment of hyperhidrosis. To date, this is the most effective way of getting rid of this very troublesome ailment. For more information, see the article on hyperhidrosis treatment.

Contraindications to the use of botulinum toxin are:

  • myasthenia gravis,
  • autoimmune diseases,
  • a history of paralysis and nerve inflammation,
  • pregnancy,
  • taking aminoglycoside antibiotics.
