Contact allergy is a specific reaction of the body to contact with a chemical substance. Such a reaction is the result of a "mis-programmed" immune system, which does not use antibodies but only lymphocytes when starting the allergic reaction process. The lesions that develop as a result of the inflammatory reaction undergo phases of development accordingly, after which they disappear. In situations of persistent allergen exposure, chronic allergic dermatitis may develop.
