Back in the 1980s and 1990s, Poles were still among the world leaders in the number of cigarettes smoked, which was reflected in the dramatic figures for morbidity and mortality due to one of the "main killers" - lung cancer. It has been known for many years that smoking leads directly to this cancer and that the number of so-called pack-years (years of regular smoking) correlates with the risk of contracting the disease. After these 30 years, after many social campaigns and government programmes, we can, as a nation, say - we are smarter, it is better!
