The treatment of acne vulgaris - a common affliction for many teenagers, but also for some adults - mainly uses retinoids and antibiotics. However, not all patients tolerate such treatments well (if only because of their side effects), which is why scientists are looking for new, alternative acne treatment options. Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, are working on the use of a vaccine in patients with this skin problem.
