Older men who drink even as little as two drinks twice a week and who suffer from diseases that can be exacerbated by alcohol, e.g. gout, or who take drugs that interact with alcohol, e.g. tranquillisers, are 20% more likely to die compared to men who drink less or even drink more but do not have such diseases.
