The reason for the increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias and cardiac interruptions in patients treated for schizophrenia, may be due to the illness itself or its treatment.

The risk of cardiac complications is comparable during treatment with thioridazine and haloperidol. To minimise the risk, the lowest therapeutic dose of thioridazine is recommended.
