Chemical burns are those caused by contact with acids, bases or heavy metal salts. Accidents involving the above substances usually occur in workplaces or, less frequently, at home. Corrosive chemicals or their vapours can damage the respiratory tract, mucous membranes and skin. In the vast majority of cases, the hands and face suffer burns.
