A drug used in the treatment of alcoholism can help treat compulsive gambling tendencies, according to preliminary US research. This is reported in the journal American Journal of Psychiatry.
Both alcoholism and compulsive gambling are categorised as addictions, i.e. mental disorders caused by the patient's inability to control impulses properly.
