Drugs used to treat infertility do not increase the risk of ovarian cancer.

12-08-2004,

As large studies have shown, the use of ovulation-stimulating drugs does not appear to have a strong association with subsequent ovarian cancer as previously suggested. This conclusion was reached by US authors based on a retrospective evaluation of 12193 women who were treated for infertility between 1965 and 1988.

However, the authors point to the need for continued monitoring of such women for the long-term effects of these drugs, as an assessment of the long-term effects conducted up to 1999 revealed a negligible increase in the risk of disease in a small group of women.
