Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a recessively inherited disease linked to the X chromosome. It therefore affects the vast majority of boys, with occasional cases in girls, such as those with Turner syndrome (one X chromosome). It is the most severe and also the most common disease of the muscular dystrophy group.
