It has been observed that, in patients with bipolar affective disorder (BPAD), employment status is significantly associated with cognitive functioning, especially with factors such as verbal memory, total severity of symptoms experienced, course of hospitalisation and mother's education. No association was found between employment and severity or course of psychotic symptoms, length of education, or age of onset.
