Cold woman, woman suffering from flu

According to information in the August issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, experiencing influenza by a pregnant woman, early in pregnancy, may be linked to her child's later onset of schizophrenia. The reason for this association is not likely to be the illness itself, but rather the antibodies produced in response to the infection.

A cohort study of 64 people with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, selected from those born between 1959 and 1966. The control group consisted of 125 people.
