According to information published in the July issue of The New England Journal of Medicine, nearly 17% of ex-service personnel in Afghanistan and Iraq can be diagnosed with some sort of psychiatric disorder after their service, and almost half of these individuals require specialist help.

A questionnaire-based study (screening for major depression, generalised anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder) of more than 6,000 infantry soldiers before and after service in Afghanistan or Iraq.
