Hearing impairment is a significant population problem. They are the cause of hearing disability in approximately 5% of the world's population. Hearing impairment can have many causes, but usually the onset of deafness or hearing loss is a combination of many factors. Researchers investigating the processes involved in hearing damage have synthesised an innovative new drug that, in studies to date, has contributed to a partial recovery.
