A scar is a fibrous connective tissue that replaces defects in the dermis. Keloids are nodular formations with increased cohesiveness, a smooth and shiny surface, often with the presence of protrusions that pass beyond the original area of skin damage. The occurrence of both keloids and scars is associated with pruritus, pain and restricted mobility, e.g. of joints.
