Britons spend more money on alcoholic drinks each week than on fruit or vegetables. Research into consumer behaviour in the UK has found that the average household spends nearly $12 a week on alcoholic drinks consumed at home. Weekly spending on groceries, meanwhile, is just over $10.

The analysis was conducted using data from 7,000 UK households. Covers the period from April 2002 to March 2003.
