It has been reported for some time that genetic disorders may play a significant role in the development of schizophrenia. More genes are still being discovered whose mutations may favour the occurrence of this mental illness. One of the most recent reports concerns the discovery of a genetic disorder pathway through which the risk of schizophrenia may be significantly increased as a result of abnormalities in brain development occurring before a person is born.
