The efficacy of nicotine replacement therapy does not depend on whether the drug is administered by the inhalation or transdermal route. The study showed that the efficacy of the inhaled route (nasal spray) was comparable to that of the transdermal route (patch). However, in highly dependent, obese patients and adolescents, the inhalation route was found to be more beneficial.

Randomised, open-label study of 299 smokers. In addition to nicotine replacement therapy, patients were given behavioural counselling.
