The first operation to simultaneously remove cancer and reconstruct the breast has been performed.
In order to reduce the trauma of subsequent breast operations, the doctors decided to perform a 'two-in-one' operation - during the operation, they first removed the cancer and then reconstructed the patient's breast. Thirty-five-year-old American woman Rebecca Matchett underwent the operation.
Doctors say that this type of surgery can have great psychological benefits - the patient wakes up after the operation with a new breast and does not feel the trauma of amputation. However, this type of surgery is discouraged for radiotherapy patients, diabetics, smokers or women with unusually large breasts.
It took the patient about six weeks after the operation to return to full shape. Three months later, the woman became pregnant.
