France is one of the countries with the most developed nuclear energy. This raises understandable concerns among the public, worried about the health risks for children. Recently, the first results of a multi-year observation on the incidence of leukaemia in children living in the regions around 23 French nuclear installations were published. No increase in incidence was shown in any of the zones surrounding the installations studied. The global incidence in the 40 square km areas around the installations studied was even slightly lower than the national average (ISR=0.94, 95% confidence interval= 0.88-1.01).
