A falls prevention programme in the elderly that includes risk factor assessment, education, modification of medication and environmental layout, among other things, is not effective in the elderly who are in hospital for short periods of time. The results of a study conducted in 24 geriatric wards of 12 hospitals in Sydney, Australia, were reported online in the British Medical Journal.
