The antidepressant efficacy of S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAe) (1600 mg/d orally or 400 mg/d intramuscularly) is comparable to that of imipramine (150 mg/d orally), but SAe appears to be significantly better tolerated.
SAe is the most important methyl group donor in the CNS.
