The severity of bereavement, depression and other problems resulting from separation is similar for the immediate family of the deceased, regardless of whether they were asked to consent to organ removal from their deceased loved one (and the family consented or not), or whether they were not asked and the removal was waived.

However, the mood of the bereaved family is clearly affected by the poor quality of hospital care.
