Phrenology, as it is referred to, flashed like a comet in the scientific firmament of the late 18th century. It has long since disappeared from the firmament, consigned to oblivion with the development of psychiatry. Today is the anniversary of the birth of its 'father', Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828).
