Streptococcal angina typically occurs in children, but a patient of any age can contract it - including a pregnant woman. Pregnancy itself does not increase the risk of the illness in any way, but a patient who may have developed streptococcal tonsillitis should always go to see her doctor: streptococcal tonsillitis requires antibiotic treatment, which can protect against the rare but serious complications.
