Lost productive time (LPT) due to health complaints is significantly higher in employees with depression than in those without depression. As much as 81% of the difference in LPT is due to lost productivity rather than absenteeism.

The authors of the report estimate that the annual cost to employers of LPT in people with depression is $44 billion.
