Depression

Both left-sided high-frequency transcranial magnetic stimulation and stimulation of the right prefrontal cortex region with low-frequency waves are effective treatments for treatment-resistant major depression.

A randomised, double-blind study using either transcranial magnetic stimulation (daily: 20 5-second sessions of left-sided high-frequency (10Hz) transcranial magnetic stimulation or 60 1-second sessions of low-frequency (1Hz) stimulation of the right prefrontal cortex region) or placebo on a group of 60 patients with treatment-resistant depression.
