The results of a study in the August issue of the Journal of General Internal Medicine indicate that somatic symptoms (such as chronic pain), which often accompany depression, are more difficult to treat with antidepressants than other depressive symptoms.

An open-label study of 573 depressed patients who received nine months of pharmacotherapy with fluoxetine, paroxetine or sertraline.
