The July issue of the American Journal Obstetrics and Gynecology reports that urodynamic testing carries an increased risk of urinary tract infection. Researchers from Hong Kong assessed a large group of 822 women with urinary incontinence. Four to six weeks before the urodynamic study, all patients had a screening to detect a urinary tract infection and were treated if found. They were then screened again for urinary tract infection on the day of the urodynamic test to detect patients free of infection. The retest was performed 46 hours after the urodynamic test.
