The report Wasted Talent: Women in Science in the Countries of Central and Eastern Europe, prepared for the European Commission, shows that in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic States women account for about 38% of scientists (a percentage higher than in the European Union). However, they are employed in poorly funded scientific fields and their chances of a scientific career are low.
