Angio-CT, or spiral computed tomography, is a radiological examination using a contrast agent to visualise blood vessels.

Ad:

The image obtained is three-dimensional and its resolution is similar to that of angiography, allowing an accurate assessment of changes not only in the vessel walls, but also in the lumen.

During the examination, the brain vessels, carotid and vertebral arteries, abdominal vessels, pulmonary arteries and the thoracic and abdominal aorta can be visualised.

It is most commonly used to assess:

  • vessels of the cerebral arterial circle in the diagnosis of subarachnoid haemorrhage,
  • carotid arteries before surgery,
  • thoracic and abdominal aorta in the diagnosis of aneurysms,
  • renal arteries in the diagnosis of hypertension,
  • lower limb arteries in the evaluation of atherosclerotic lesions.

Advantages of the study:

  • obtaining accurate models of vessels in the brain, heart, abdominal cavity, lungs and extremities,
  • allows even minute changes in vascular flow to be captured,
  • causes fewer complications than traditional angiography,
  • takes about 20-30 minutes, is painless.
